Ancient Heping

The ancient village of Heping is about an hour's bus ride from Shaowu. It was built over one thousand years ago and has around 200 folk dwellings in Ming and Qing architectural styles. There is one main street from which dozens of extremely narrow winding alleys branch out. All of the buildings are made entirely of stone and wood.

For the large number of dwellings, the village was eerily quiet and we didn't see a great number of people around. We assume the population is not as large as it once was. We spent a few hours wandering around the pretty village, and had a local lunch of dumplings and wontons before taking the bus back to Shaowu.
